MASTERCLASSES
LIFTING EXPECTATIONS
A series of masterclasses have been run in schools throughout PanOut. Schools have found them a useful addition to their current food tech classes, broadening students learning wider than what is actually on the standard curriculum.
One masterclass was created as an Introductions to the Hospitality Industry run by Learn Train Recruit. School pupils were introduced to potential job opportunities within the sector and were encouraged to learn some basic front of house skills such as how to carry and clear a plate in a restaurant. Pupils heard from the masterclass leaders, how they had travelled the world working in a range of restaurants and venues. Experience of the speakers covered work on International Cruise Liners, work in New York, Italy, and 5 star hotels in London.
Daksha Gourmet Catering ran a number of cooking masterclasses for Wandsworth pupils. Daksha talked about her own journey into the food & hospitality sector explaining how rewarding a career it had been – including her stint in the Masterchef finals! She explains about the skills and positive attitude required in the sector as well as focusing on the practical skills involved in food preparation including the importance of food hygiene. She has also offered practical demonstrations, for example how to prepare a chicken curry and a vegetable curry.
“Excellent extracurricular and subject content obtained for our own personal development within the catering and textiles department. Great opportunity for our all of us, staff and students. Would love to be involved with more evetns like this!”
