TEACHER’S CPD & COCKTAIL MASTERCLASS

STIRRING STUFF

In order to raise awareness of the opportunities in the Food and Accommodation Services Sector, Pan Out recognizes that teachers, every bit as much as pupils, need to see first hand, what the industry has to offer.

In a fitting ‘end of term’ activity a group of 20 teachers from Ernest Bevin College attended The London Cocktail Club in Shoreditch for a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) event, which was aimed to increase their knowledge of the industry and their ability to provide careers guidance to their pupils. Whilst we know from experience that it is very difficult for teachers to find time to attend out of school activities – for some reason, we had little problem persuading teachers to attend this event!

A range of presentations provided teachers with insight from current industry needs to success stories from young people employed by London Cocktail Club. To top it all off, teachers were given a whistle stop cocktail masterclass.

“Hearing teachers feedback that this event was a real eye opener about the sector and the range of opportunities and issues that exist was exciting. It’s clear that by bringing teachers to the employers environment, rather than taking the employer to the school, the event had really brought the sector to life and showed first hand the opportunities available. The teachers said that they felt much better able to talk about the sector as a result.”
Tim Andrews, Director, LTR

Presentations at the event:

  • Tim Andrews, LTR: the sector, skills shortage and opportunities for young people
  • Mattia Conti, London Cocktail Club: his 20 year career behind the bar
  • Zak & Amber, London Cocktail Club: experience of two young people working in the sector
